A Step-by-Step Guide to Publishing Your Dissertation in a Peer-reviewed Journal

Transforming a dissertation into a publishable article is a vital yet often underestimated step in the journey from graduate student to professional scholar. While dissertations represent years of effort, they are rarely suitable for publication without significant adaptation. Many students in applied, technical, or scientific disciplines find themselves unsure of how to revise their work, what content to keep or cut, and how to navigate the publishing process—often without formal instruction or mentorship.
This practical webinar is designed for graduate students and early-career researchers in STEM, social sciences, education, business, and other professional fields—not the humanities. Dr. Parker will walk participants through the full transformation process, from identifying the most publishable elements of a dissertation to understanding the expectations of journals and publishers. The session will highlight common structural and stylistic mismatches that can delay or block publication, and offer clear, actionable strategies for rewriting your dissertation into one or more compelling scholarly articles or book chapters.
Participants will also gain insight into the often opaque world of peer review, learn how to select appropriate journals, and explore techniques for enhancing readability and impact. Dr. Parker will share insider tips for avoiding common pitfalls, handling revisions, and using publications strategically to build an academic or professional reputation.
